Who said summer gets to have all the fun?

As the snow starts falling around the CN Tower, and the crisp, cold air starts nipping at your nose, rather than cozying up on the couch, why not bundle up and head outside!

Put on your favourite toque, mitts and jacket and get ready to have a flurry of fun in the GTA this winter. We’ve curated a list of events that everyone can enjoy, from classic festivities like the Cavalcade of Lights and the Nutcracker to new traditions like the Distillery Winter Village. Plus, snap a pic with the one and only Santa—we’ve got all the details below.

Events & Activities

The Distillery Winter Village. November 17 – December 31, 2022. Stroll the cobblestone streets under starlit canopies taking in the timeless romance of the holidays with friends and family while browsing a curated selection of Toronto’s finest craftspeople, local shops, restaurants and cafés. Free entry this year from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Midnights Holiday Edition – Taylor Swift Dance PartyDecember 17, 2022. To all the Gorgeous Swifties, Anti-Heroes and Masterminds get ready to feel a lavender haze creeping up on you at a Holiday-themed Midnights Dance Party at The Opera House! Dance your heart out to her top hits, deep cuts and of course, tracks from the incredible Midnights album. 19+.

WinterFest at Canada’s Wonderland. November 18 – December 31, 2022. An immersive holiday experience for the whole family. This event features ice-skating on Snow Flake Lake, more than a dozen live shows and holiday entertainment, millions of spectacular lights, and hundreds of beautiful Christmas trees throughout the park, including two 50-foot Christmas trees on International Street.

Christmas at Casa Loma. December 2nd, 2022 – January 2nd, 2023 (Select Dates). Throughout the holidays, Casa Loma’s Great Hall features a 40-foot tall tree, plus eight more signature trees designed by talented Canadian designers. For the kids, no festive visit is complete without a visit to Santa’s workshop to participate in themed crafts.

Street Eats Market FestivalVarious dates. This ongoing food truck festival near the Scarborough Town Centre wraps up the year with a Holiday Market, featuring artisans and music. Food-wise, there will be baked goods, hot chocolate and specialty drinks, plus seasonal food truck treats.

National Ballet of Canada’s “The Nutcracker. December 10 – 31, 2022. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” is an unforgettable tribute to the imagination, with non-stop dancing plus magnificent sets and costumes. Following renowned Canadian choreographer James Kudelka’s version of the perennial Christmas tale, a brother and sister in rural 19th-century Russia experience their Christmas Eve dream, journeying through spectacular adventures including the glittering realm of the Snow Queen, ending at the magnificent palace of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

New Year’s Eve Comedy Extravaganza. December 31, 2022. Curated by Yuk Yuk’s founder Mark Breslin, the annual New Year’s Eve event returns to the newly renovated Massey Hall and features a stellar line-up of Canada’s top comics. The evening will be hosted by award-winning comedian and host of CBC’s The Debaters, Steve Patterson.

Cavalcade of Lights. November 26, 2022 – January 72023. Experience the magic of the holiday season with the much-loved Cavalcade of Lights at Nathan Phillips Square. Inspired by international lantern, fire and light festivals, this year’s festivities will transform Toronto’s City Hall into a dazzling wonderland each night. Enjoy the glittering tree, participate in public skating and bask in the glow of thousands of lights as they adorn the heart of downtown Toronto.

Markham Winter CarnivalDecember 23 – January 8, 2023. Winter Carnival is an unforgettable experience for the whole family. Enjoy indoor and outdoor activities featuring Ice Sculptures, Mechanical Rides, Bouncy Castles, Games, Magicians, DJs, Food, Shopping, Animatronic Dinosaurs, and much more.

Disney on Ice: Find Your HeroFebruary 3-5, 2023. An adventure filled with tales of heroism from your favorite Disney stories. Join fearless wayfinder Moana and demigod Maui as they bravely voyage into uncharted territories to return the stolen heart of Te Fiti. No one knows how far they’ll go!

Winterlicious. January 27 – February 9, 2023. Toronto’s Premier Prix Fixe Food Event. Warm your bellies with delicious three-course meals at one-of-a-kind events hosted by more than 200 of Toronto’s top restaurants. This program helps support the local restaurant industry in economic recovery and revival and celebrates Toronto’s diverse culinary scene. Yum!

Music at the Movies. February 10, 2023. The FILMharmonic Orchestra, led by acclaimed young conductor Francis Choinière, arrives in Toronto for their spectacular concert Music at the Movies! Well-known for their performances of iconic film music as well as popular classical repertoire, the Ensemble is set to bring a masterful selection of soundtracks.

Snap an unforgettable family picture with the holly jolly man in charge, Santa! Here are the top spots for Santa pics this holiday season.

Toronto Eaton Centre. Bring your crew and visit Santa from November 19 through December 24! Pre-book your visit online for $10 to reserve your spot. Time slots are limited to 8 people. Tickets include your visit and up to 5 professional digital photos.

Dufferin Mall. Santa arrives at Dufferin Mall on Saturday, November 19th at 11am and will be available for photos until December 24th. You can also book a time to get your pet photos done during pet nights here.

Christmas at Downey’s Farm. Join in the fun with Santa and his Elves at Downey’s Farm. Enjoy Wagon Ride, Farm Animals, Meeting Santa Claus and more! Christmas at the Farm is an outdoor event, operating on select days from November 25 to December 22, 2022. Purchase tickets online
